Hi all you between the covers readers.  I love the new blog. Great idea Debra ain’t Suzanne.  This helps me feel connected to y’all., even though I’m out here in cowboy country.  bill and I are enjoying the easier life of retirement, even though we keep pretty busy with all the activities in this fun “active adult” community. thankfully,  Bill’s Alzheimers hasn’t progressed. However, we recently discovered he has prostate cancer and will have to undergo radiation treatment this summer. Hopefully that will take care of it.  I’ve been told that Most men do recover from this .
We’ve joined a wonderful Episcopal church here that has been a warm source of comfort and peace.
And the neighbors in this community are so caring and friendly, even though they are from all over the world.  I’ve decided to just keep focusing on the present - trying to live in the here and now and finding at least three things a day to be grateful for. This has really helped me to stop whining and feel more positive.

2018 April Meeting: We welcome a new member!

Hi Girls!

We met on Saturday, April 7 with Nancy, Gail, Susan and Debra attending. And we're very excited to welcome our newest member, Sharon Patterson!

We discussed our latest book, Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan. It was a single woman's view of the WWII era with an emphasis on her work, and her family history. Not necessarily a memorable book, but a thoughtful read giving us insight into the period, with a mobster tale thrown into the mix.

Susan brought 4 books for us to choose from for our next meeting, Saturday, June 2. Our choice: The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah.

The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish - Susan warned us about the language. I'm currently listening to it on Audible and she is correct. The language is tough, and Tiffany Haddish's childhood was a train wreck. But what a story! She is now an actress and writer, known for the film Girls Trip and other accomplishments.

Saturday, June 2: Susan will find us a meeting venue. Gail will bring book suggestions.

Between the Covers - A Little History

Between the Covers book club was started in 2008 by Suzanne Turzillo. Our membership grew from friends who met and ran together in Marathon Makeover, a training ground for running marathons with a common goal to run in the Chicago Marathon. Over the years, we have moved on to different interests but our friend-book club connection is always there.

Our initial membership included Suzanne, Nancy Lane, Gail Sykes, Janet Lushbaugh, Hallie Clement, Carol Kossman, Susan Christensen, Sally Cohen and Debra Ferguson. It's been 10 years now and we've had a few change and are making some new connections. 

The point of this blog is to make a private space to stay connected even for those of us who have moved from the Brandon, Mississippi area. We can invite new members and also friends who have "the passion for reading" that Suzanne set as our goal for gathering 10 years ago. We can share ideas about books we're reading or listening to, or other thoughts that would be of interesting. 

Our meetings in Brandon are scheduled for the first Saturday of every other month. This schedule began on February 3, 2018.
